Fantasy football is inching closer, so let’s mull some “sleeper” picks

All 32 NFL teams will head to training camps next week in preparation for the 2017 NFL season, which it means it's officially time to kick off research for your fantasy football league(s). The term sleeper doesn’t necessarily have a proper definition, but it’s largely a player that no one, not even their real-life NFL team, had previously expected to become a fine-tuned, consistent offensive machine week to week. When it comes to fantasy, that’s largely determined by a player’s average draft position (ADP) and the lower a player went in the average draft, the more of a steal or sleeper he later proved to be. Here’s an early list of seven players—a mix of running backs and wide receivers—who could possess some serious value later in drafts and thus exceed expectations and their ADP, from FantasyPros.com.

Over/under: Redskins QB Kirk Cousins’ numbers in 2017

As much as some fans hoped for a pleasant surprise between the Redskins and Kirk Cousins, for weeks it had become obvious that the quarterback would not be signing a long-term deal with the organization before Monday's deadline.  Part of that may have been that Washington never made a dollar offer that blew away the passer. The other part? Cousins wasn't going to sign.  Using the franchise tag in 2016 set the Cousins contract saga on at least a two-year course, and possibly three, as the guaranteed money became so valuable that a multi-year deal made little sense. Cousins spoke repeatedly on Tuesday about his desire to stay with the Redskins, and his comfort level of doing that on one-year deals.

Now it gets complicated for Le’Veon Bell and the Steelers

Three players will play on the franchise tag after Monday’s deadline for signing a long-term deal passed. Washington Redskins quarterback Kirk Cousins signed his franchise tender long ago and will again play this season like nothing is wrong, even though his situation will be one of the NFL’s biggest stories next offseason. Los Angeles Rams cornerback Trumaine Johnson will also play on the tag for a second straight season, collect a small fortune and then can hit free agency next season.
