Former NFL GM thinks Derek Carr’s deal ruins Redskins chances at contract with Cousins

On Thursday, quarterback Derek Carr signed a five-year extension with the Oakland Raiders worth $125 million. Carr's long-term deal has brought up the question of whether or not the same type of deal can get done between the Redskins and their quarterback Kirk Cousins. Carr extension has some good news for Redskins but Cousins deal will still cost big bucks

While we await the full details of Derek Carr’s contract extension we know enough to see what effect the deal will have on the Redskins’ efforts to negotiate a new deal with Kirk Cousins. The Carr extension has been anticipated for months. The 2014 second-round pick was going into the final year of his contract. There were strong incentives for both sides to get a deal done. Raiders QB Carr signs five-year deal reportedly worth $125 million

While Carr did not divulge the terms of the deal, multiple outlets reported that it was a five-year, $125 million contract. Andrew Luck of the Indianapolis Colts receives $24.6 million per year, just ahead of fellow quarterbacks Carson Palmer ($24.35 million) of the Arizona Cardinals, Drew Brees (24.25 million) of the New Orleans Saints and Kirk Cousins ($23.9 million) of the Washington Redskins.
